just when I thought I was getting better….. POW!!!
that was the sound of a snowball hitting me directly in the left eye. Did I close my eyes when I saw it coming? No. Did anyone warn me that it was headed my way when they saw it coming? Nope. How long was it before I could even open my left eye without the help of anesthetic eye drops? Three days. That’s right folks… the trauma of having gone through Epi-Lasik wasn’t enough for my poor eyes — they had to go and get scratched by a stupid piece of ice from a rogue snowball!
After a sleepless night (no help from 3 Tylenol PM’s), I called up Kaiser to see if the advice nurse thought I should go to the hospital in Sacramento on my way home. They thought I should see a doctor even sooner than that, so the BF took me to the ER promptly. It was a slow Sunday morning, but it still took an hour for the Doc to get in and give me the magic drops… turned out I had an almost 4mm scratch on my cornea, and the epithelial cells (which had been so carefully scraped back into place after the Lasik) had been removed. Luckily, my right eye was fine, but still!! I pretty much slept for the next two days, a nice chance to catch up on all the sleep I missed from the previous week. This is what my eye looked like when the patch came off on Tuesday, almost three days after getting hit:
At least I had a fabulous day at Alpine Meadows before losing my vision for the second time in six months…
